The career staff of the CVFD recently participated in joint training with members of the Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head fire departments. The firefighters were trained in the Aerial Operator certification series delivered through the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The series of classes covered Introduction to Aerials, Basic Aerial Operations, Aerial Maintenance and Aerial Testing for a combined 60 hours of instruction.
According to Chief Glenn Rainey, the timing of the training worked out well for the department as the new ladder truck went into service late this summer. The specialty classes ensure the firefighters are proficient and safer with the apparatus and can pass along what they’ve learned to the Volunteer members that will be training to become operators.
